Trip Notes
The diesel filter problem had troubled me through the night & I was very relieved when Mabe (the Lodge mechanic) popped in around 07h00 & helped me with the problem of the seal. Even with his assistance, it still took us over an hour to get the seal to work properly & the filter back in place. Mabe said this was the most difficult one he had handled & he does this every 3 months on the lodge vehicles.
Besides the filter issue keeping me awake, we were awoken a few times by hippos grazing around the vehicle. At first we had though it was elephant but on closer inspection in the morning, we found the spoor of a hippo. Good thing we didn't need a nature break during the night else things could have got quite nasty.
We packed, had something to eat & were on the road by 09h00. Unfortunately, the filter light still burned on the dashboard & even a call to Toyota in Cape Town wasn't able to resolve it so I decided it would have to continue burning until we got to Livingstone where if I was not able to sort it out myself, I would pop into Toyota.
The journey went without incident except for the strong head wind which slowed us down somewhat. We got to Livingstone shortly after 5 & I popped into Shoprite to stock up on Mosi's & see if they had butane canisters. I was successful with both & we then headed onto the Zambezi Waterfront to book into the campsite for the night & enjoy a last sundowner on the Zambezi until next time. Campsite #4 was occupied so we settled for #3 which proved to be a good choice - possibly even better than #4 as it was wider & more level.
While Ang settled the payment, I unpacked the necessary & then met her on the deck for a Mosi while the sun set. We eventually took our beers back to the campsite as the mosquitos were on a mission to suck us dry. The temperatures must have been warmer during the previous 2 weeks as there were plenty more mosquitos around.
