Trip Notes
Dawn over the Kavango River |
We were on the road at 06h30 on a chilly morning with a lot more mist over the river this morning. We made haste in getting packed & only had a cup of coffee before leaving. We had decided to have breakfast on the side of the road before we got to the vet fence thereby not having to relinquish any of our meat.
We made good progress as the roads were quiet & there were no roadblocks other than at Rundu checking passports which was quick. We stopped about 50kms out of Rundu for breakfast of eggs, bacon & banana cooked on the Bush Baby on the tailgate of the bakkie. Our standing time was only 20 minutes to unpack, cook, eat & repack.
We got to the vet fence a few kilometres further on. They firstly sprayed the tyres with some chemical & then checked the fridge for any proteins. Fortunately all had been consumed up the road so we were travelling south again pretty smartly. Next stop was Otjiwarango for fuel, ATM & Spar. We were now short of some essentials & as we were not staying in Windhoek, we didn't want to venture into town to buy food..
Monteiro Campsite |
As we travelled on the bypass around Windhoek, the sun set in our review mirror. Fortunately, it was a short drive up the hill outside Windhoek & we then made a sharp right turn at the top of the hill for the Monteiro Campsite.
When we arrived, the gate was locked but after we had tracked down the guard, the reception was opened & we directed to campsite #3
